HERBIG IDEA is a creative studio comprised of WHITNEY LYLE and SAM HERBIG. Whitney is a designer who loves to create books, packaging, and do more crafty projects in her spare time. Sam is a film electrician who loves to take photos tirelessly, while finding time on the side to create maps in various mediums (a long-standing hobby, starting with his 3-d topographical map of his hometown, Tübingen, Germany in elementary school).

Together, Whitney's big picture ideas and Sam's impeccable attention to detail, they pull prints in a print shop or set-up a makeshift photography studio. They love to generate ideas and find ways to execute them.

Design your big idea with us

Wedding stationery from Herbig Idea is dynamic, interesting, and completely unique. You can use one of our established lines, look at our past custom work for inspiration, or contact Whitney about starting your wedding branding from the ground up! Everything can be customized so that giving your celebration a distinct look is easy. We can create art for almost any element you want to include in your plans; from the stationery, to the decor, to favors. We gladly adjust designs to accommodate any budget and will work with you to make sure you get the most impact on your big day.

OUR PROCESS

Picking your look

First, look through our different designs and decide which direction you’re most interested in. Think about how you would like to customize the design you pick, if at all. If you want completely customized invitations, fill out the questionnaire. If you want to order a sample from our Dawanda shop, go for it. If you have questions about what we’re able to do or pricing, contact us and we’re happy to answer your questions.

Placing an order and a deposit

Next, fill out our order form. Once we have your order we can create an item for your deposit on Dawanda or do a bank transfer, whichever you prefer. Once your deposit has come through we get to work!

Designing and Proofing

With your order form in hand we can finalize the design and text for the invitations of your choice. If you’ve decided to go in a custom direction, we might have a Skype meeting before the design process starts. Then we would do an initial round of ideas and ask for your feedback. Next, regardless of whether you order custom stationery or one of our established lines, we will send you low-resolution PDF proofs to check and finalize the text. If high-resolution is needed to approve art, it will be watermarked. Once you approve of the text we contact our printer.

Printing

With the final approved files in hand, we contact our printer and tell them about your order. They will give us a timeline for the final product. We also order envelopes at this point. Your deposit is used to cover printing costs, so it is non-refundable beyond this step.

Post-printing customizations

Not every order will have this step, but if there are any handmade elements we create those with the printed invitations on hand. Examples include belly bands, watercolors, tying on ribbons or strings, or hand cutting and folding. When the invitations are done, we will let you know and send you a photo proof. At this point the rest of the payment is due. We can use a reserved Dawanda order or a bank transfer, whichever you prefer.

Shipping

Here comes the exciting part! We will let you know when your order has shipped and the method used. You confirm when it comes through.

Things to keep in mind

The entire process can take anywhere from 10 days to 4 weeks depending on how responsive you are, how many changes are needed, and holidays. Rush orders are possible but please contact us to discuss anything with less than a 2 week timeframe. We can definitely find solutions for your time crunch, but some rush fees may apply. We do our best to keep those fees reasonable.

In the meantime, be sure to gather the addresses of your guests so you can mail the invitations out as soon as you can after they ship to you. If we have a time crunch, the envelopes can be sent in advance.

Think about the invitation and info card wording. Guests like to understand the schedule, so making a clear outline of when things are scheduled and where (complete with proper addresses) is very important to help reduce confusion for them and lots of questions being asked of you. If you have a registry, hochzeitstisch, or flitterkasse think about where you want to mention that information if at all (sometimes word of mouth is sufficient). Be sure to include a way for guests to contact you or someone helping to organize the wedding if they have questions or “ideas” (z.b. Hochzeitsspiele, Hochzeitszeitung). If you need an exact headcount, definitely have RSVP cards, postcards, or an email address to get a clear picture of your day-of guestlist.

Be sure to stay in touch in the months leading up to your big day if you plan to order matching day-of paper. Placing your order at least 1 month in advance should give us ample time to get it to you.
