HERBIG IDEA is a creative studio comprised of WHITNEY LYLE and SAM HERBIG. Whitney is a designer who loves to create books, packaging, and do more crafty projects in her spare time. Sam is a film electrician who loves to take photos tirelessly, while finding time on the side to create maps in various mediums (a long-standing hobby, starting with his 3-d topographical map of his hometown, Tübingen, Germany in elementary school).
Together, Whitney's big picture ideas and Sam's impeccable attention to detail, they pull prints in a print shop or set-up a makeshift photography studio. They love to generate ideas and find ways to execute them.
In 1981, Harold and Evelyn were married at city hall. After 33 years they wanted to celebrate their successful partnership with a vow ceremony at their church. Together we designed a program to serve as a memento for each guest in attendance.
Because they are both philosophical people, Harold and Evelyn looked for a few meaningful quotes (from Rainier Maria Rilke and Rudolf Steiner) as well as symbols (the oak and the cypress) of their marriage.
With the trifold fully open an additional message is revealed: a passage about bravery from a children's novel, In Geheimer Mission Durch Die Wüste Gobi (meaning "A Secret Mission Through the Gobi Desert" in English).
Harold and Evelyn also decided to include an expression of gratitude for the friends and family that have contributed to and supported their relationship through the years. The center panel as well as the back of the program include a series of intertwined "Thank Yous".
