HERBIG IDEA is a creative studio comprised of WHITNEY LYLE and SAM HERBIG. Whitney is a designer who loves to create books, packaging, and do more crafty projects in her spare time. Sam is a film electrician who loves to take photos tirelessly, while finding time on the side to create maps in various mediums (a long-standing hobby, starting with his 3-d topographical map of his hometown, Tübingen, Germany in elementary school).

Together, Whitney's big picture ideas and Sam's impeccable attention to detail, they pull prints in a print shop or set-up a makeshift photography studio. They love to generate ideas and find ways to execute them.

Neighborhood Map (PLG)

This map was born out of our move to a new neighborhood in Brooklyn. It's really more of a "new and improved" version of my Ditmas Park map.

In making this map, I decided to go the route of painting this time however. I had a good time using acrylic paint when doing the Dueling Paintings with Whitney in the spring, so that I decided to pick that technique to make the new map.

I also wanted to distort the map, so as to give the area immediately surrounding our home more space (and weight). In my mind, this central and most important area of the map would look like a "bubble".

Things I learned: Use a sturdier paper stock or even wood to work on next time!
